Taranaki
Taranaki Base Hospital is the main regional hospital in New Plymouth.
The Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Coronary Care Unit (CCU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU) is a 16-bed combined unit. The unit comprises of three ICU beds, 13 CCU/HDU beds, and a treatment/procedure room.
The Intensive Care, High Dependency and Coronary Care team provides high quality specialised care, whilst maintaining an environment of dignity and respect for patients, whānau (family) and staff.
Patients in the ICU / CCU / HDU are able to have full bedside monitoring, with the information displayed on the bedside monitor, and also at the central workstation monitors, allowing for remote monitoring.
The Taranaki Region
The Taranaki region is located on the west coast of the North Island of New Zealand. Look for the distinctive cone-shaped Mount Taranaki (also known as Mount Egmont), which is the centerpiece of the region. Taranaki is bordered by the Tasman Sea to the west and the Manawatu-Wanganui, Waikato, and Bay of Plenty regions to the east.
The Taranaki region is well known for its stunning natural beauty, rich history, and vibrant arts and culture scene. Mount Taranaki is the region's namesake and most recognisable landmark is a stunning, symmetrical volcano. The city of New Plymouth is the largest settlement in the region and is located on the coast in the northern part of the region.

Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora – Taranaki serves a population of around 130,000 urban and rural residents with a team of more than 2,500 medical professionals working from Taranaki Base Hospital, a rural hospital in Hāwera, in a network of community health centres as well as mobile dental clinics.
Hāwera Hospital offers inpatient beds with ensuites, a maternity suite, outpatients, a purpose-built dental unit, community Mental health, District Nursing, radiology and laboratory departments and a 24-hour emergency department.
Taranaki Base Hospital has maternity, ED, ICU, mental health and maternity services plus new paediatric and surgical wards as well as wards dedicated to general medicine and older people’s health.
Their Project Maunga hospital rebuild includes a new green star rated renal unit opened in November, 2022, the new East Wing building housing acute and maternity and radiology services under construction, as well as a new cancer centre about to break ground.

Citylink buses runs weekday commuter services within urban New Plymouth and to Bell Block-Waitara. Connector and Southlink buses are also available.
Taxis and Ubers also operate around the main centres as well as several rental vehicle companies.
